it is my belief that truth in advertising is of the utmost importance. as such, the following add is written with an eye toward transparency. please carefully consider the following : purchased new roughly 22 years ago, this dining room table is awesome, with solid bones and a structural integrity that is fully intact. solid, with legs that bow gracefully at the corners, down to the floor. the top is polished to a fine gloss and crafted to highlight the beautiful, natural grain of the hard wood from which it was made. each of its four corners is accented with a brass plate. the table is large enough to accommodate 6 comfortably and includes two leafs that grow it to a table for 10. the 6 chairs that accompany the table are framed with a dark wood and feature gently curved backs crafted from the same wood as the top, also finished to accentuate the natural grain. the chairs at either end have armrests, while the four that sit on the either side do not. again both the table and all the chairs are skillfully rendered from solid wood, finished beautifully and sturdy as the day they were made. that said, the set does have its flaws. given that it is and has been an everyday table- hosting an average of two meals a day- it is in great shape and could go on feeding the family without compliant. however, if you intend to use the table as a show piece, as an anchor for the dining space, it could use a bit of work. again, it doesn't need it, but depending on your tolerance for wear, you may even want to have the whole piece refinished. the good news : most all of the wear is superficial- chipped paint that can be easily touched up, scuff that will disappear with a good buffing, and stains that can be polished gone. the wear (again, predominantly superficial) is here and there, some on the chairs, a good deal on the legs, but mostly on the two included leafs. as I made mention, the table will function perfectly and surely draw compliment even without any work done, but there is, to be fair, work that could be done. I've attempted to capture a representative sample in the pictures attached to this add. so, in the final analysis, this dinning room set of large, stately table and 6 chairs gets an overall rating of 7 out fo 10, with respective ratings of 9 / 10 for structural integrity and 5 / 10 for cosmetic presentation. the table was purchased new for roughly $2200 over 20 years ago, and at only $500 it is what they like to call a darn steal. whether you are looking for an everyday table that will effortlessly lend a bit of grandeur to your dining space, or you need an anchor piece and are willing and able to put in a little work, this is the table for you. dimensions : 72" long x 44" wide x 31" tall p.s. this table and chairs is one part of a dining room set that includes a large glass faced display cabinet. the cabinet is crafted from the same woods, finished identically, with legs that feature the same graceful curve and corners capped with the same brass accents.
