Description
This is a wonderful blue-glazed faience pendant in the shape of an ancient Egyptian Shabti. The pendant has some light damage due to age and expected wear for an item made somewhere between the 1880s-1930s. This Shabti can be worn on a necklace or displayed as a nice addition to any art collection. Shabtis are ancient Egyptian funerary figurines meant to serve the deceased in the afterlife. These small mummiform figures were believed to come to life and perform tasks that the deceased might be called upon to do in the realm of the dead. They were typically placed in tombs along with other burial goods and inscribed with a spell that would animate them. The Egyptian Revival was a design movement popular from the early 19th century through the early 20th century, particularly between the 1880s-1930s, that drew inspiration from the art and architecture of ancient Egypt. This style permeated various art forms, including architecture, furniture, decorative arts, and jewelry. DIMENSIONS: 2.5" H x .75" W
