Description

Paul Maitland-Smith, a London antique dealer, founded Maitland-Smith in 1979 in Hong Kong to manufacture 18th century furniture reproductions. Maitland-Smith's history can be traced back to Paul's father and grandfather, who were also cabinetmakers and antiques dealers. In the 1950s, Paul was known in London for selling well-made reproductions. He later moved to Hong Kong to start his own reproduction business, sourcing from Hong Kong, China, and Thailand. In 1981, he built the company's first manufacturing operation in the Philippines. Maitland-Smith's products include furniture, lighting, decorative accessories, mirrors, seating, tables, desks, cabinets, and more. The company's artisans use time-honored techniques, such as lost wax casting, that date back to the world's earliest civilizations. Maitland-Smith also offers a high degree of customization, allowing customers to choose from a range of materials, finishes, and fabrics. These came from an estate sale in Pasadena, California. Before that they hung on either side of a fireplace in a stately home in New Jersey. They remind us of the wall sconces in the 1940s French film The beauty and the Beast by Jean Cocteau. They also evoke the arm of the Statue of Liberty. They need not be hard wired to the wall. They have wires and plugs for easy access to power the bulbs. The scones each weigh about 12-13 pounds. They are 21“ long and extend 13” from the wall. The glass inserts are 9” tall and 5.5” wide. They have no chips or cracks. Local pickup in Pasadena
