Description

Own a piece of history! Big Eye Binoculars were used during World War II to spot Allied ships and search for the enemy’s aerial positioning. Original tripod, original steel carrying case, original operation instruction book, and official “certificate” included. Please see the photos, especially the ones of the instruction manual which lists all the specifics for Model # 65-25-40WYJ From manual: “The binoculars 25X and 40X are a precision optical instrument with variable magnification which is used for long range observation under various climatic conditions.” Weight: 12 kg Overall size of binoculars: L x W x H = 623 x 216 x 273 (mm) Magnification: 25 times; 40 times Includes: objective assembly, prism assembly, interpupillary distance adjustment mechanism, 25 times eyepiece, 40 times eyepiece, elevation adjustment mechanism, tripod, etc. Again, see the photos for more details. My husband and I tried the big eye binoculars outside, and it worked great. So clear!! We are not sure if it was actually used in WWII, but there is a distinct possibility! I found this on a history of binoculars website: “Many WWII-era binoculars are still highly regarded today not just for their durability, but for their impeccable viewing quality, making this era of binocular on par with modern viewing glasses.” (from online site “Vintage Binoculars: A Guide to Their History, Origins, and Evolution). Overall, this item is a unique and rare find!
