Description
Beautiful large oval tine (also called a svepask), hand-made in Scandinavia in the 1800s. Classic bentwood construction with the wall steamed and wrapped, stitched at the seam, and secured with pegged uprights. The oval lid notches under the end lugs; a small brass pull (likely an old addition) makes lifting easy. Warm, original red surface with wonderful star/diamond punch decoration all around and on the lid. * Size: 17" L × 11" W × 7.75" H * Material: softwood (pine/fir), stitched/bentwood sides, pegged bottom boards * Finish: dry, untouched red paint with age-darkened patina * Decoration: dotted/“pricked” folky motifs on body and lid * Use: traditional food and gift carrier (bread, cheese, wedding box), now perfect for folk-art display or storage Condition (honest, old): expected wear, scuffs, and paint losses; shrinkage to the lid rim; one end lug shows an old wrought-iron wire/nail repair and the brass lid pull is a later addition. Structurally sound and displays beautifully.
