Vintage Avon The 1876 Cape Cod Collection Salt & Pepper Shakers

This set was never used. Still has the liquid inside. This set was made in Nineteen seventy eight. The Cape Cod collection are reminiscent of early American pressed glass called " Sandwich Glass." It featured lacy, intricate designs, fine background strippling, and exquisite brilliance, which reflected the superd craftsmanship of its makers. Many of the detailed designs of this prized glass were produced by the Boston & Sandwich Glass Works founded on Cape Cod in eighteen twenty five. Other companies in the region competed, but the popularity of "Sandwich " pieces resulted in the name becoming a generic term for pressed glass. This unique Avon 1876 Cape Cod Collection was in-spired by the classic Roman Rosette pattern. The collection name commemorates both the spirit of the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial, the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and, Cape Cod, the area where Sandwich Glass originated.
