Description
This gorgeous vintage oil painting really exemplifies the artist’s extraordinary talent. I have heard that she painted alongside or under the tutelage of Edgar Payne, and if this is true, one can certainly see his influence in this work. It was painted by American artist Mary Suehanna Darter Coleman (1(contact info removed)). She was born in Fort Worth, TX, graduated from Texas Christian University, studied at the Art Students League in New York, returned to Texas and became an art instructor, and eventually married artist Harvey P. Coleman. I prefer her work over his. She became known for her landscapes, and portraits. This is an oil on canvas, signed lower left, and framed in a gold wood frame. The painting will soon need restretching, which is why I’m starting it at a lower price. Please refer to photos for details. I have heard a canvas can be tightened or stretched by spraying distilled water on the back and letting it dry. Dimensions: 16” h x 20” w, actual; 20.5”w x 24”h framed.
