Schwarz, Hempstead, NY, a storied Long Island furniture house. Quick Schwarz/Hempstead history: The John A. Schwarz furniture business began in Brooklyn in 1876 and expanded over decades. In 1949, Schwarz moved operations to Hempstead, NY, where for over 30 years it was a well-known full-line furniture retailer. After 105 years in business, the Schwarz firm closed in 1981. Having that retailer label adds real heritage to this set.
