I’m selling my .925 sterling silver rope chain & 45.7 gram .925 sterling silver cubic zirconia studded cross. Chains this thick, length & weight are hard to find online and in retail stores. Chains sold online and in retail are lengthened to even numbers; 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, etc… The average weight for each chain varies. The average weight for a 26 or 28 inch chain is 180 grams to 190 grams. The quality of today’s chain(s) are not as good as the old school hand made custom chains we all learned to love back in the days. Today’s chains are machine made using the least amount of metal possible so manufacturers can maximize their profit. Rope chains are one of the strongest links available. To estimate when a silver (or Gold) chain was made, the most reliable way is to look for hallmarks or maker's marks stamped on the chain, which can often indicate the piece's origin and approximate age using a magnifying glass; if the chain is sterling silver, look for a "925" stamp, and research the style and design to compare it to known trends from that time period. This chain has a makers mark that hasn’t been used in 40 years.
