If you like relic'd guitars, this sunburst dreadnought may be for you. Except you won't have to pay the guitar maker an extra $1000 to beat the guitar with a Harley chain to make it look road worn. This US made Guild has all the nicks, dings, scratches and worn spots from 50 years of playing already on it. Most notably there is some evidence of aggressive picking around sound hole at pick guard where the bit of wood that is missing went to guitar heaven (photo). A couple of very small, short cracks in that same area have been glued and cleated. Finish on neck is pretty much rubbed off and smooth near head stock (photo). Tuners are in great shape, and frets show some wear typical of a guitar of this vintage. Guitar plays good and loud with new Martin phosphor/bronze strings (12's). Original hard shell case is included with 4 of the 5 latches still functional, but with a bit of the covering worn off here and there. Serial number 127267 reveals guitar born 1975. All in all, just a very cool older guitar ready for another 50 years. The answer to Martin's dreadnought D-18, the D-40 has a solid spruce top and solid mahogany back/sides with vintage style rosette, tortoiseshell pickguard, white ABS binding, and Guild's peak logo inlaid on the headstock. A thin varnish finish gives the D-40 a broken-in look and feel.
