The seat of antique nursing rocking chairs were constructed a couple inches lower than standard seat height to enable more comfortable closer interaction with the baby as well as easier interaction with other children and easier comfortable access to sewing supplies. Very stable, some finish wear consistent with age, the finish of the rockers are in excellent condition. I love the natural pitting of the wood on two of the back spindles.
