Vibe Forklifts, LLC DISCLAIMERS 1) Forklift fork extensions must not exceed 1.5x the length of the fork. 2) Only use extenders that match the width of your forks. 3) When picking up a load, the load center should never exceed 50% of the fork extension. 4) Per OSHA guidance, fork extenders must be properly secured so they cannot be accidentally dislodged. 5) Don’t forget to factor in the added weight of the fork extensions in your load capacity calculations. Fork extensions directly effect the stability, capacity, and safety of operation of fork lift trucks. The primary OSHA regulation regarding forklift attachments is 1910.178(a)4. It states that “modifications and additions which affect capacity and safe operation shall not be performed by the customer or user without manufacturer’s prior written approval. Capacity, operation and maintenance instruction plates, tags or decals shall be changed accordingly.” THE FORKLIFT OWNER is responsible for obtaining the manufacturer’s written approval to comply with OSHA requirements. You must contact the original attachment manufacturer. Users of fork extensions who have not received manufacturers written approval for such modifications are in direct violation of the OSHA regulatory standard. A forklift dealer cannot supply approval for a forklift attachment.
