Ford, Honorary Chairman, Statue of Liberty Ellis Island Centennial Commission, “In May 1982, President Ronald Reagan announced the formation of the Statue of Liberty–Ellis Island Centennial Commission, led by Chrysler Corporation chair Lee Iacocca, to raise the funds needed to complete the work. Through its fundraising arm, the Statue of Liberty–Ellis Island Foundation, Inc., the group raised more than $350 million in donations.” (see Wikipedia) First line of text: In the minds of people everywhere, no idea is more powerful than freedom … text continues….in recognition of your selfless sacrifice to protect and preserve the worlds’ symbol of freedom, your personal contribution, given in the year nineteen hundred and eighty-five, has been officially recorded and your name entered on a permanent Register of Contributors to be displayed at the museum of the rebuilt Statue of Liberty, Port of New York, United States of America. Reproduced signatures in the certificate: Lee Iacocca at lower left and Jerry Ford at lower right. Illustration of the Statue of Liberty and an Ellis Island building in center.
