These beautiful one-of-a-kind custom made storage units were used as stairs to a loft space, often living space above a shop. * Meiji Period (1868-1912), circa 1880’s (early 19th century) * 65” High x 60 1/2” Wide x 16 1/2” Depth * Kaiden Dansu, the traditional Japanese step-chest with access on both sides (reversible) * Hand forged iron hardware with hirute shaped drawer pulls, in two sections * Hand-crafted of dramatic Keyaki burl wood drawer faces, sliding doors and doors panels (Zelkova wood) * Sugi wood drawer interiors (Cedar wood) * Lacquered reddish orange coloration, excellent condition overall with lovely aged patina * Bottom of each drawer there is a hand carved/engraved number marking system * The cabinet with 8 steps has many doors, drawers, and sliding panels. Some of them have discrete and clever locking mechanisms * The drawers can be pushed or pulled through either side * Zen characteristics of simplicity in form and utility in function to add visual interest as well as unique practical storage space * Works as a room divider * Use as a bookshelf, jewelry box, sewing cabinet, clothes storage, to display your loved treasures, for DVD’s/CD’s etc. * This is good for kids, teens, or adults who like that loft bed look and it’s great for rooms or studios that have little or tight space Genuine Treasure!
