Description

1930s Czechoslovakian pressed glass vanity set (Hoffmann or related factory), imported post-war and sold in the U.S. by Morlee Glass. Identification Sheet – Morlee Glass Vanity Set Maker: Produced in Czechoslovakia (likely Hoffmann or Josef Inwald factory), imported and sold in the U.S. by Morlee Glass. Circa: Original production ca. 1935–1938, imported and retailed in the U.S. in the 1940s–1950s. Composition: Pressed amethyst glass (may appear purple due to manganese content, which can deepen in sunlight), with intaglio (frosted-relief) figural stoppers. Set Includes: Two perfume bottles with figural stoppers, one matching lidded powder jar. Stopper Design: Classical woman with child holding garland/ribbon, octagonal plaque shape, frosted intaglio, long glass dauber with rounded tip. Condition Notes: Hand-wash only; avoid abrasives and ammonia cleaners to protect the intaglio detail. Historical Notes: Morlee Glass was a U.S. importer/distributor of European glassware. They purchased unsold or newly produced Bohemian glass post–WWII, often rebranding it for American department store sales. Collector Value Range (as of 2025): - Single Czech/Morlee intaglio perfume bottle: $40–$120 USD depending on size, color, and condition. - Complete 3-piece set in good condition: $120–$250+ USD, with higher values for distinctive colors or confirmed factory/pattern attribution. Care Tips: - Display away from strong direct sunlight to prevent further deepening of amethyst hue. - Store stoppers separately when moving to prevent chipping. - Use mild soap and lukewarm water for cleaning; pat dry with a soft cloth
