Vintage Art Tool & Die Co NY Brass Forming Swage Tool Wood Handle

Vintage solid brass forming / swaging tool with turned wood handle, marked on the underside “ART TOOL & DIE CO. N.Y.” (stamp appears twice). This was likely used in a metalworking, jeweler’s, or tool-and-die shop for shaping material in the curved cavity. • Maker: Art Tool & Die Co., New York • Material: Solid brass head, wood handle, steel shank • Features: Deep shaped cavity with two raised “ears” at the front, flat bottom, heavy weight • Markings: Oval stamp “ART TOOL & DIE CO. N.Y.” on underside Condition: Vintage used condition with scratches, dings, and oxidation from normal shop use. Brass has a nice aged patina. Handle shows wear but is solid and secure. Interesting piece for a machinist, tool-and-die, or jeweler’s collection, or as a display “mystery tool.” This is a small metal-melting ladle / crucible: • The bowl on top is where you put small bits of metal (lead, tin, solder, silver, etc.). • The groove and pointed lip at the front are a pouring spout so you can pour the melted metal into a mold. • The thick brass head + wooden handle let you heat the bottom with a flame while you hold the handle.
