Description
These iconic pieces were very popular in the '70s. The swans and the trumpet vases are the most easily recognized pieces but there were many other items such as the split handled baskets, serving trays, swan napkin holders, cornucopias, and several different style vases. People often associate them with Murano Glass from Italy, and I'm sure if you probably came from there. But in fact these swans and the trumpet vases originally sold under 'The Old hickory Glass" label as early as 1959. But more commonly found under "The Sooner Glass" label. The swan pieces look as if they are stretched with a swag look that is why the are referred to as 'Stretched Sooner Swag Swans" or some variations of those names. Many pieces were made by "The Central Glass Company" out of Spiro, Oklahoma, as well as Colorado Springs, Colorado and Fort Smith, Arkansas we're all known to make this type of art glass. The Sooner Swans were mostly found in earthy tones that were popular in the '60s and '70s. Such as browns, honey, gold, avocado, blues, greens, and oranges, but you can find them in just about any color under the sun. I know when I was a little girl I was just fascinated by the swans and I always wish I had one. Now that I'm older I have acquired a collection I have about 12 of them. They are all truly unique and beautiful, however I am a cobalt blue kind of girl and I am cramped for space, so I decided to see if maybe I could part with some of these and invest in some others that match my cobalt blue art glass collection. I just learned the information above while researching these "Sooner Swans" and I found it to be interesting so I figured I would share. This particular swans body resembles an egg in a way. The glass Smith that created this particular sooner swan chose to use several shades of Orange with some blue and green hidden up by the head. This one here I noticed head is a little thicker different than the rest of them that I have, I'm thinking this one here might actually be a Murano. This little fella measures approximately 7"T at head x 14"L x 7.5"W x 5"T that tail. It has no condition issues that I could see, I did not notice any cracks or chips. Please refer to pictures I provided for further detail and description. You want this little fella you will have to pick it up in Lakewood.
