Description
Alexander Kalifano, hand made, 1992 Pristine condition This is a beautiful and highly collectible vintage gemstone world globe, standing 8 inches tall on a gold-toned brass tripod stand with a functional, integrated compass. The globe is especially unique because the cartography provides a rare geopolitical snapshot of the world from approximately 1992. Confirmed Date Markers (C. 1992): Pre-1993: The country of Czechoslovakia is still present (split Jan. 1993). 1992 Era: Yugoslavia is still named as a single entity (began dissolving in 1991/92). Post-1991: The globe shows Russia and the former Soviet Republics as independent states (USSR dissolved Dec. 1991). Older Name: While dated to 1992, it includes the colonial name Burma (changed 1989), indicating the use of a slightly older base map—a charming and common idiosyncrasy of handcrafted globes. Materials & Condition: Globe: Features Lapis Lazuli for the deep blue ocean, with continents and countries meticulously inlaid using various semi-precious stones (e.g., Mother of Pearl, Jasper). Stand: Highly decorative, ornate brass tripod stand with a glass-topped, integrated compass at the base. Great condition!
