Description
This old fireplace mantel was saved from a home in Myers Park (in Charlotte, NC) before it was torn down. It was original to the house (built in the 1930's). There is gold leaf in parts of the mantel! The house was left abandoned since the 1980's. It was like a time capsule! The owner at the time simply purchased it to store stuff in the home and the garage (the garage had many old collectible cars that sold for over two million at auction). The owner's relative told me the owner of the house covered the mantel in a layer of white paint to try and keep thieves from stealing the mantel for the gold leaf since the house was unoccupied. The family of the house was very interesting and had a rich history in Charlotte! Due to the house being abandoned for around 30 years, it had gone into disrepair and the county forced the house to be demolished. This piece is well built and quite grand! I hope to find someone that loves this piece just as much as I do. *The dimensions of the mantel opening are 50.5 inches wide by 38.5 inches tall*
