Description

“Hand red flare distress signals.” Thats what the front says. When worded that way you know it’s from the early 1900s. These canisters were on lifeboats and other vessels and at one point carried hand flare signals inside of them. Made of heavy copper with a bronze lid that screws on watertight. It’s amazing it survived. As you can see, it has a few dings &dents on it. The lid screws off, but then gets very tight at the top and I don’t want to take it off unless you request me too I will. I can tell nothing is inside though. These are a huge part of nautical and Navy history. Super hard to find! There is absolutely no flares inside this canister or included in the sale whatsoever.
