Description
These cast metal bookends are circa 1920s to 1930s and feature a crouching Indian warrior or brave, knife in hand, and they have a beautiful bronzed patina. The metal plates are covered on the bottom with felt. The maker's mark is on the back, hard to read yet you can make out the large K and ampersand sign within the oval, telling us these were made by Kronheim & Oldenbusch Metal Novelties Co. This company was in business from 1895 to 1939, and I've identified this particular design as being one made toward the latter part of the company's run. They evoke the era of old Western art, figural sculptures like Remingtons, and the Wild West. K & O Bookends are highly collectible and depending on the design can run up to $500 for a set. Each measures 6-1/2" tall and the base is 4-1/2" wide. Each weighs 2.75 pounds, so 5.5 pounds together unpacked. Deep patina from age. In good vintage condition. Great uncommon gift for men.
