These Wharfedales spent YEARS in a climate controlled, dusty storage, and after wiping them down, I found they are also in FANTASTIC condition. I personally just recapped the crossovers (they needed it) to return them back to factory specs. I am only parting with them because I already have so many speakers. I can definitely compare these with my professional studio monitors. They are very detailed! The recapped crossovers can be tuned; using the mid and treble controls on the back, you can increase the highs to make them very bright and the mids to increase the level of presence you desire. I pared them with a Yamaha amp (also for sale if you'd like, it has a built-in phono preamp), and the image they produce together is amazing. I've heard details in a few jazz albums that I've never heard before using these speakers. You're welcome to pair these with any vintage or modern amp. While writing this, I decided to try some electronic music and you do no need a subwoofer paird with these, there is plenty of low end. It doesn't take a massive power amp to push these. If you have a child that's just getting into REALLY listening to music, or if you yourself need to upgrade your system, this is a GREAT choice. The speakers are sealed and have been dampened with enough fiberglass stuffing to keep any boomyness away. The great thing about them being sealed, too, is that the bass image doesn't pool to one location, so if you need to locate these close to a wall, you're welcome to. The boxes are very heavy too. I think the back panels are filled with sand. I can't 100% confirm with these, but that's what I found reading about these. Just below the unique purple Tweeters, they are labeled "made in England." The inverted surrounds on the woofers remind me of the Realistic Mach One's. I'm sure these sound better though! Only marks I can find that appear like damage is on the bottom. There are some scuffs that are from the previous owner scooting them around. They are not that bad, and if you'd like, it can be sanded out since the boxes have a true veneer, not a vinyl wrap. One corner has a small nick, and there is some slight discoloration on the face of one, below the tweeter... honestly, I'm even reaching to call it damage because you would only notice it if you made an effort to find it. It's hard to even get a photo of what I just wrote about. The grill covers are in perfect condition and attach by magnets... nothing more to say than, it's perfect. These are located in Burbank, close to Hobby Lobby. Stop by, take a listen, and then take them home. You'll be happy you did! I prefer not to ship these because of how heavy they are and I'd prefer for them to stay in the same condition. I may be willing to deliver if you're close to Burbank... but that's a maybe.
