Key facts about the Thunderbirds: The Thunderbirds are the air demonstration squadron of the U.S. Air Force, formed in 1953. They showcase the skills and precision of Air Force pilots through aerial maneuvers. The team consists of 8 pilots, 4 support officers, and over 130 enlisted personnel in 25 career fields. They fly F-16 Fighting Falcons, demonstrating the capabilities of these high-performance aircraft. During performances, the aircraft fly in tight formations, sometimes as close as 1.5 feet apart. Their mission is to recruit, retain, and inspire past, present, and future Airmen. They perform air shows across the United States and worldwide.
