Very Rare 1963 Red Northern Beaver 1 Cent / Penny Gumball Vending Machine /w Glass Top This amazing penny gumball machine was made in 1963 by Beaver in Ontario, Canada. It is the first vending machine that began an era of iconic candy and nut machines for this famous company. The penny can be seen in the "penny window" once it drops after turning the handle. Original glass globe with "Made in Canada" embossing on top.  This machine did not have a lock or key as it was designed to fit onto a stand with 2 or 4 machines with a top casting to hold and lock the machine into place. The operator would unlock the top casting of the stand, and then access the individual gumball machines to empty the coin compartments and re-fill the products. The machines were awkward to refill as you had to turn them upside down so the design was improved after only one year in production. Thus, later machines all feature a top metal cap containing a barrel lock. This very decorative piece is in very good vintage restored working condition. Small chip in the plastic body on the back. Measures 15" high x 6" wide x 7 1/2" deep. Great piece!
