TLDR: Maintenance/inspection department needs a review as there were multiple things that should have been caught and fixed prior to selling, salesman was great though.

We went in to see a 2016 Volkswagen Golf GTI 2.0T S 4-Door FWD (VIN 3VW4T7AU7GM067900) on September 11th 2025. Although the salesman was great (don't recall his name), the car had issues from the get go. When the car was brought around, I checked under the car for any leaks and noticed some dirty oil on the bottom of the oil pan. Popped the hood to see if I could see where it was coming from and there was a little bit of fresh oil around the oil filler cap along with some minor drops on the cover above the radiator. Thinking that the oil might have just been spilled during a recent oil change, I looked beneath the car again and noticed a fresh drop on the concrete, along with a large drop forming on the oil pan. Knowing this was likely not from an oil change, I pulled my phone out to get a better picture of where the oil was coming from. When I looked at the pictures, I saw it was clearly coming from the oil drain plug and that the oil pan had larger scrapes on it where it had been worn away. This was right on the threaded area of the oil pan where the drain plug screws into (pictures attached). Oil pan looked like it needed to be replaced as it was damaged.

The salesman took the car to the maintenance area, came back after a bit and confirmed that the oil pan needed to be replaced and would be replaced for free prior to selling which I was ok with, but it was red flag #1 as the person who replaced the oil absolutely should have seen that the oil pan was damaged, there was a small hole where the drain plug screwed in and it needed to be replaced.

Ignoring red flag #1, we decided to go for a test drive as it wasn't a major oil leak and could be remedied fairly easily.

As soon as we pulled out of the lot and have it some gas to get to a good speed (busy, kinda fast road), the car started shaking and went into limp mode with the check engine and EPC lights illuminating. We limped it back to the dealer and left immediately as it was red flag #2.

I would not recommend shopping or buying a car from here based on my experiences for two reasons:

1. Improper inspection (leaks
-I understand things can get missed during an inspection, but fluid leaks around damaged components that I know somebody touched to drain the oil is just wrong
2. Improper inspection (driveability)
-The car was not drive able immediately after pulling out of the lot. I don't understand how that could not have been caught

Again, the salesman was great and helped us through the process with ease, but the multiple issues we had with the same car were completely unacceptable as they should have been found and remedied prior to putting it up for sale.
