Description

Almost completely restored, vintage 12 inch jointer by Northfield Mfg for sale. I say almost because it needs a new set of knives, a belt guard and a blade guard which is available from Northfield. It has a 3 HP, 230V, 17A single phase motor and an older Siemens magnetic switch. The cutter head uses two 12 inch knives available from online sellers. The jointer is rust free and sports a new paint job. There is also a 5 inch dust collection port underneath and inside the tool base. Everything works perfectly and it runs smoothly as well. This is a great, very heavy duty tool with many more years of use left. A little history about the tool which I've learned online and from talking to the folks at Northfield: originally the jointer would have had Babbitt bearings and a shaft mounted motor. Some time long before I bought the tool it was converted to ball bearings and the motor was mounted to the end of tool with spindles to belt drive the cutter head. I tried to ascertain the year the machine was built and contacted Northfield and was told that since there is no serial number it was probably built in the 1920's or before. Overall it is in excellent vintage condition and needs a new home so it can go back to work making wood chips, maybe for another nearly 100 years. Please be aware, this is a very heavy machine, 1000-1100 lbs I estimate. It is currently bolted to a dolly which I am willing to let go with the jointer but a lift gate truck (which is how I got it home when I bought it originally) is the most practical transportation solution.
