Demon Mephisto Carnival Glass Vase Gothic Imperial Glass Faust Mephistopheles purple Carnival Glass Vallerysthal Devil Face

This beautiful and unusual purple carnival glass vase was made by Imperial Glass Company.  On 2 of its sides, it is decorated with the face of Mephistopheles or Mephisto, a demon in German folklore. On the other 2 sides, it has a rose design.  The demon Mephistopheles is associated with the Faust legend in which Faustus sold his soul to the devil. Mephistopheles tried to warn Faustus not to give up his chance at Heaven for worldly rewards.  This devil face gothic design, which serves as a reminder of the demon's warning, was originally created by Vallerysthal Glassworks (1836-1853) of France.  This iridescent carnival glass vase is purple in color and shimmers in colors of pink, purple, blue, green, and gold depending on how the light hits it. This vase is approximately 8-3/4" tall x 3-1/2" x 3-1/2" and has the Imperial Glass IG mark on the bottom.  This is a vintage item with the natural wear, tear, and character flaws of age.
