-Gorgeous Early 1900's Colonial Mfg Co. Solid Mahogany Spinet Writing Desk out of Grand Rapids Michigan - A beautiful workable desk for all purposes. Numerous small pocket drawers along with sliding hidden secret compartments complements the craftsmanship of this unique piece. Retains all of it's original hardware. -When closed this mahogany table looks like your classic reading - writing desk. However, the back folding top opens on it's original brass hinges to reveal a surface full of surprises including secret doors. Also, it has a very unique pull out tray with additional storage below the pull out. Innovative and an extremely unique design. -Beveled in an ornate design on all 4 sides with a finished back so can be used in any configuration in the room. -Hexagon shaped legs that taper. This table is considered to be in the Colonial Revival Style -Minor wear and light scratches on pull out desk area, indicative of typical use over 100 years. It is in it's original condition and has not been refinished. -A little historical info, a "Spinet Desk", is named after it's resemblance to Spinet Pianos made during the 1840's. The type of hinges used on the flip top are called "Soss hinges" which were not patented until 1909 by Joseph Soss. Colonial Manufacting Company was based in Grand Rapids Michigan from 1893-1983.
