Description
The America's Cup Is Down Under framed poster in very nice copper colored metal frame 24 and 1/4 inch wide by 36" high with wire hanger. Poster designed by world renowned artist and illustrator Melbourne Brindle for Perth, Australia 1987 event. Representing a significant year in the history of the America's Cup racing, the 1987 America's Cup was the 26th challenge for the Cup and the 1st time in 132 years that it had not been defended by the New York Yacht Club. The American challenger, Stars and Stripes 87, sailed by Dennis Conner, beat the Australian defender Kookaburra III, sailed by Ian Murray, with 4 wins to nil in the best of 7 series. Dennis Connor became the 1st person both to unsuccessfully defend the America's Cup and then to win it back again. This would be the last time that 12-metre class yachts were used in the America's Cup. Note that 2nd photo posted is truer to colors but reflects back the camera flash. No flash on 1st photo, but image is darker than actual. Excellent condition. Please let me know if you are interested in stopping by to inspect. Cash-and-carry in Arlington near Pentagon.
