Pearl GX Maple Shell Japan version, 1985 10”/14”/18” 22”x14” kick

1985 set of japan market GX maple shells with piano black lacquer- Japanese maple from the good old days, these were the top of the line back then, and still are to this day. Massive power set up with the two up and the beastly 18” down. Could use just the 14” up, but I like the 10” tucked up there too for a bit more color- These are the standard depth shells, another bit of rarity, rather than the deep power shells which were more the norm of that era. A versatile configuration as you could do a straight power 3-piece with 14” up and 18” down, 10 and 14 up, with 18” down, or you could go jazzy bop, with 10” up and 14” down- heck, you could also go 10” up, and 14/18 down… The shells are round and edges are original- Lacquer exterior has some battle scars from a busy life, but the lacquer still shines up well- I thought about re-painting, but decided it’s way cooler as is, its super rare, and because the sounds these drums make are epic- kind of like how, someone would never strip and paint Stevie Ray Vaugns guitar, right? They’re just loaded with character and superb quality. Originally factory painted black lacquer interiors. On these particular drums, the interior was sanded to a rough surface to fatten the sound, years ago.They sound pretty dang good right now, but a new set of heads of your choice would be epic- Sizes are 10”, 14” mounted, and an unbelievable 18” floor Tom that will blow you away. Kick hoops are not original, but still Pearl. A set of black painted 22” maple hoops could be added at any point, to get a little closer to original. Kick is a 22”x14” that is tight and sweet- Not included is the gen one free-floater snare- but I would add in for $300, and its period correct, and honestly is one of the best sounding snares I’ve ever heard.
