Description
Overview: Up for sale is this fantastic woodblock print, "The Katata Ukimido Temple in the Lake Biwa," which depicts the Katata Temple on Lake Biwa, the largest freshwater lake in Japan, located in the Shiga prefecture. I love the snow and the solitude of the snow-laden boat at the shore of the temple. This print was produced by Eiichi Kotozuka. Kotozuka was born in Kyoto and was one of the major forces in the shin hanga movement. He, along with Tokuriki, Tobei and Tasaburo formed the Koryokusha publishing company in an effort to break free of the major publishing companies. This print was part of a six-print series called, "Scenes of Shiga, Nara and Kyoto," which dates to the 1950s. It comes matted and framed in a blond midcentury bamboo frame. Condition: Print is in excellent condition. Frame is in very good condition with minor wear. Measurements: Print measures approximately 11 inches wide x 8.25 inches high. Frame measures approximately 14.75 inches wide x 11.75 inches high.
