4 inches wide x 3.5 high Antique Hindu make up vermilion and eye liner brass box holder. This is an antique Mughal style brass Indian ornate locking Tikka box container. It has six compartments that lock in, by the peacock in the middle being screwed in. Ideally used to store make up in colourful powders for ceremonial Hindu beauty rituals. Peacock shape handcrafted cast brass Kum Kum powder Tikka box with peacock figures and elephants. Handcrafted in solid brass by artisans in Uttar Pradesh, India. Unique star shape brass box used for keeping the vermilion and khol powder for Tika. This antique storage box has six heart shaped containers with hinged lids and finials in the form of peacock, which each open and close independently. The main finial is a peacock which is a sacred Indian bird. The finial unscrews releasing the lids. The base has 5 feet in the form of elephant on which the metal caddy rests upon. The Peacock, is believed to be a divine symbol of pride and beauty. Religious Folk Art decorative collector box. A collectors item used by women, the red vermllion is used by married women, other colours are used as well. Mughal Raj Indian Folk Art style with great patina.
