Description
This piece is a Breton figure in a traditional outfit, playing the Breton version of the bagpipe, which is a national instrument in French Brittany. It is likely to be a panel salvaged from a sculpted armoire or bed, from 1850 to 1900. This amazing carved panel is a French Brittany antique sculpted panel circa 1900 folk art/wall art/wall decor/wall hanging. Neo-gothic/Neo-Renaissance. Most likely from a Henri II cabinet (a kind of neo Renaissance cabinet that was very popular in France circa 1(contact info removed)). Please see photos for more details. Measures approximately 12" x 4 3/4". This was a find from my parent’s home.
