Description
Do you have a kid getting ready to drive? Do you just know in your heart of hearts that your beloved cherub is going to plow more curbs than a full-size chevy that still has unaddressed tie rod ends? Then do I have good news for you! What youre about to be looking at is a 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander. From this point on I'll refer to this magnificent beast as "the Mighty Mitz", or "MM". This reliable panty-dropper has been in my family since it was purchased new off the showroom floor in 2003 by my grandma. Thats right, this sleek specimen of Japanese ingenuity was driven by a little old lady on short trips to and from the grocery store, thrifting, and all of the other places a sweet old grandma would drive to - including multiple trips to indian casinos across southern california as grandma sought retribution for past wrongs. She owned the car for approx 120k mi of its life until her age forced her to stop driving. At this point, my dad bought the car from her and used it as a DD/commuter to go from Oak Hills to Lancaster (roughly 110mi daily) for many years until his retirement at the end of 2024. After his retirement, we smogged the mighty mitz (passed with no issues) and it was given to my GFs teenage son. After many failed attempts, he was unable to acquire a CA license and moved out of state in shame, leaving the car that taunted his inability to drive behind in so cal. He only had/drove the car for approx 100 miles during the months that he owned it. After that I took the car back and put it in my name and its currently on non-op (no back fees, tags expired Aug 12th) as I told my dad I'd sell the car and give him the money. Lets be honest, this car is far from perfect. However, its been rock-solid reliable. The good: -It runs -Tires still have a ton of tread left AND it has 4 of them (with a bonus space saver spare tire in the back). Theyre not cracked or dry rotted. Internal air included -It doesnt leak any fluids -Passes smog with no issues -It has glass that you can see through -Cruise control works -Major service done at approx 174k miles -I put a new costco battery in it at the beginning of 2025, along with new wipers installed in June of 2025 -It has LED headlights AND the finest amazon LED fog lights that minimum dollars could buy (theyre still on the factory fog light switch = clean installs only) -Interiors in decent shape for a 22 yr/o vehicle [minus the cargo area carpet, it has holes in it]. Drivers seat has NO holes or tears in it -It has a sunroof. We havent operated it in years due to fears of it not closing/sealing -Still has the factory radio with the super rare "cant pick up $hit" AM/FM option The bad: -Grandma hit a fence with it & the front bumper has been massaged back into position... you can tell it wasnt done at a body shop -My dad was rear-ended while sitting at a light by a high calorie human with no license or insurance... the paint on the rear bumper shows the evidence of that event -The muffler was ripped off when dad ran something over on his way home from work. The replacement muffler was the finest low cost offering autozone/napa had to offer and it might as well be a glass pack. The Mighty Mitz is excited to sing you the song of its people! -The climate control temp control knob was broken off. If you have strong fingertips, you can turn the little nub by hand, otherwise, a mini chinesium multi tool is included [for full asking price!] for climate control controlling -It has a "miss" that comes and goes like Jimmy Kimmels career. It did it to me at the very end of a 120 mile drive and I put a code reader on it,but it had no codes. Apparently its done it in the past too. Unsure of the cause, Im just here to sling a car, not play pretend mechanic -Paint and/or clear coat is fading & the MM is no longer considered the prettiest gal at the ball by todays unattainable beauty standards. Minor dings here and there -Dad took his husky/dog for car rides on weekends. Despite my shopvac efforts, it could use a good interior cleaning -AC kinda works, could definitely use a recharge. Its not too bad as long as air is moving through the condenser -This car is considered a wagon. Tons of space in the rear + teenage kids = youre a grandparent. Better have "the talk" with them before handing over the keys -It doesnt get the best MPG. Mid to high twenties is where its always been -The ol' MM has put some faithful miles down and shes now sitting at 216120 miles. So thats it. We know the entire history of the car. Its not perfect by any means, but its been a great car for my family. We have no use for it and its time for the torch to be passed-on to another family that can see the Mitz through more years of service. Asking $2500 OBO for the car. Clean title in hand. Again, whatever it sells for is what Im handing to my dad. No trades. Dont waste my time with the "iS tHiS sTiLl AvAiLaBlE?" msg, I won't respond. If the ads still up, its still available.
