We were looking to replace our aging VW Beetle, and my wife had her heart set on an Eos. After some searching on online apps and Facebook Marketplace, one dealership kept popping up: Ultimate Autos of Tampa Bay. Located in Largo, they had an impressive selection of Eos models to choose from.

When we started our search, I honestly knew very little about the Eos. By the time we were done looking around, I felt like an expert, thanks to the team there. I learned all the differences between the Executive and Comfort trims, from features to performance specs. What stood out to me the most was that this is a family-owned business, not just another used car lot looking to push inventory.

On our first visit, the owner’s high school-aged son gave us a tour. Despite his young age, he was incredibly knowledgeable about the Eos, from the trim levels to details on engine maintenance. His passion and expertise were impressive and gave us confidence in their operation. The owner, Phil, was equally friendly and transparent. He was open about the cars, their histories, and what to expect, which is critical when buying a used car.

What ultimately sealed the deal for us was the company’s commitment to customer care beyond the sale. They don’t just sell you a car—they’ll help you maintain and service it when something inevitably needs attention. Knowing they have the expertise of a true Eos mechanic was the deciding factor in our purchase.

Hidden Gem, location may not look like anything on the outside, but if you’re looking for a used EOS Volkswagen, this is the place!! So many options and all for great deals! I was able to find my replacement after the hurricane and was very pleased with the customer service, they made it fast and easy for me to drive away with my EOS.

First off, I’d like to say that the family who owns this business is great. I had a comforting interaction with Phil’s wife and their sweet dogs. I felt very good with my purchase of an older car to get me around town.
I bought an “As is” used car. I should have taken it to a mechanic to have it inspected however, the place is a mechanic shop with a huge selection of mostly German cars so I trusted them.
I left the business and minutes into my drive onto the highway the dash lights up. I start to feel the wheel shake and tremor as well as the car not being able to accelerate. I was in rush hour traffic going over a bridge. If I had stalled out or broken down, there was nowhere to go and could very well have caused a major and potentially fatal accident. So this was majorly unsafe for me. Phil was responsive right away when I called him and sent his son within the hour away to come meet me where I pulled off safely to to change what seemed to be a generally fixable small issue; the coils.
I drive it home, cautiously and it throws another check engine light when I went over 60. After a long day, I get home and plug my code reader into it and it’s the downstream o2 sensor, drive to work 2 days later and begin to feel jerking, hard acceleration and experience terrible gas mileage. I even used premium gas as insisted per VW manufacturer.
I drive on it this week, and throws another code I couldn’t figure out. I took it to my mechanic and he fixes it. Engine light shuts off no problem, tells me to follow him to the actual garage and he looks in my eyes and says “get rid of this car.”
Not only is the transmission having issues, the supercharger is malfunctioning and a very damaged oil pan.
I was in shock and my mechanic let me come into the actual shop and see it on the lift. It even had leaked oil in front of me.
I no longer felt safe. I also didn’t want to pay nearly half of what I paid for the car for repairs so needless to say I sold it for half of what I bought it for.
I won’t speak badly about the business as they definitely appeal to the German car crowd and are kind people.
However, please consult your personal mechanic before making a purchase. I am upwards of 5K shorter than I was two weeks ago. Lesson learned.
