Description
We have 6 Ollas for keeping your vegetables, plants, flowers etc. irrigated. $5 each or all 6 for $25. See description below: Irrigation by olla is a technique dating back thousands of years, especially in regions with warmer climates, such as Africa, Asia and South America. Traditionally, an olla is a clay vase or jug with a large, round body and a thin neck. It’s buried almost completely in the ground — upright, with the neck poking out above the soil — and is intermittently topped up with water. Fruits and veggies are then planted around the olla, or it can be placed at the base of a new sapling to keep it hydrated during its first year in the ground. Made from unglazed pottery, the ‘device’ irrigates the soil around it via osmosis, which ensures plants are never overwatered or under-watered. To put it simply, the water in the olla and the water in the soil want to be in balance: if the soil is dry, then water will be ‘pulled’ out of the olla and into the soil. If the soil is wet, then the water will stay in the olla. Pretty neat, right?
