ironstone, enamel Description HUA PING TANG ZHI decorative china is a remnant of an interesting bygone era. We have pretty similar pieces in this store which are probably a decade older and were decorated in Hong Kong in the time of embargo agains Maoist China. Some Chinese plates were sold with a made in Macao paper label at the time. This particular set of plates was probably made in mainland China strictly for import. They have a "not for food" warning, which became mandatory in 1979. Very thin enamel and rare, not exactly traditional style of the decorating makes them unique. Look at the detail and the quality of work! The condition is surprisingly good. No chips or cracks, no paint loss. Amazing! The red stamp in the rectangle says: Hua Ping Tang Zhi According to the Goetheborg catalogue it means: Hua "China", "Magnificent", Ping "even", "level", "democratic" or a surname, Tang "Hall", Zhi "made". plate is 10" wide, substantial decorative piece
