Description
Plates for Brains — Honoring Mom’s passion, funding Dad’s care, and naming the problem. My parents’ story is a love story interrupted by the brain. Mom’s body was taken by strokes we couldn’t stop; Dad’s mind is fading to dementia we can’t cure. For both, there were no solid answers—no prevention to follow, no fix to reach for. Just not enough known. Mom’s joy was collecting plates: flow blue favorites, colorful florals, milk glass, delicate porcelain. Her house was a gallery of patterns and patience. Now I’m sharing her collection to cover Dad’s memory care—the daily costs of safety, meals, and dignity. Why “Plates for Brains”? Because every plate sold stands for the work still to be done. It says: families shouldn’t hear “we don’t know” forever. What’s for sale? Lot of 5 Hand-Painted Violet Plates, c.1900–1930s • 9–10.5” • EPIAG (Czechoslovakia), Noritake “Graytone,” & Studio Pieces (1 Signed) Description Pretty mixed lot of five vintage porcelain plates with hand-painted violet motifs—great for a coordinated wall display or cabinet set. Sizes range from about 9” to 10.5”. What’s included (see numbered photos): 1. Plate #1 – ~9.5”, scalloped edge with brushed gold panels and violet clusters. Unmarked underside; likely early 1900s European blank decorated by a studio/hobby painter. 2. Plate #2 – ~9.75”, scalloped rim with trailing violets around a soft cream center. Back shows only a faint impressed mark (no printed factory stamp) — typical of studio-decorated early 1900s pieces. 3. Plate #3 – ~10–10.5”, ornate rococo rim with heavy raised gold and violets. Back marked “Hand painted.” Note: two tiny old hanger holes on the back rim. 4. Plate #4 – ~10–10.5”, round with lavender border and violets. Green EPIAG / D.F. / Czechoslovakia backstamp (Bohemia/Czechoslovakia), 1920s–30s. 5. Plate #5 – ~10–10.5”, round with blue scroll border and violets, artist-signed “J. Steele” on the face. Black NORITAKE CHINA (wreath) / JAPAN backstamp with ribbon “GRAYTONE.” Noritake blank, c. 1920s–40s, hand-decorated. Condition: Good vintage condition overall—no chips or cracks observed. Typical light surface/rim wear from age and display. (Plate #3 has the two back hanger holes mentioned above.) Please review all photos for the best look at paint and gilt.
