4Pc Ayotte Custom Drum Set: From the great days of Ayotte, we have a highly desirable Ray Ayotte Era Custom set in a spectacular silver sparkle LACQUER finish. Back when Ray ran his own company, these drums were built with the highest quality hand-made craftsmanship and are designed to be some of the best drums in the world. Shells are made from 6 plies of Canadian Maple with 5 ply maple reinforced rings. The interior of the shells are silky smooth to promote maximum resonance. The factory finish is outstanding, it starts with silver paint, sprayed with adhesive, rolled in silver glitter and then covered by a quality lacquer clear coat. The end result is a 3D sparkle finish that sparkles like a diamond. The bass drum hoops are black lacquer with a matching silver inlay, absolutely BEAUTIFUL! The condition is excellent and all pieces have consecutive serial numbers! For being over 20 years old, these babies are super CLEAN and have obviously been stored in bags for most of their life. Not even a single locking screw is missing from any lugs, and those are always missing! There are a few very minor scratches in the finish, mostly on the 16” floor tom than the other drums but due to the quality finish, these minor marks are very difficult to spot and the drums look flawless from a few feet away (see photos). There is very, very mild corrosion on some of the hardware, mostly on the cylinder bolts that the tension rods screw into (typical for these drums) and just a few spots on the hoops. The bass drum batter hoop has a little wear but overall; I’d rate these drums 8.75 or 9 out of 10 for total condition. Sound: WOW! These babies absolutely sing! Enormous resonance with a clear quality tone! The famous Ayotte wood hoops look nice but the sound is much more mushy and undefined, these steel hoops deliver clear articulation with higher resonance.
