Description
antique cast-iron "cigar" grinder is a hand-cranked tobacco shredder or cutter patented on March 15, 1859. It was designed to shred whole dried leaves into fine pieces. Despite the 1859 patent, it was historically used for pipe or plug tobacco rather than cigars. How It Works: Whole leaves were fed into the hopper, and turning the hand-crank rotated cast-iron teeth or rollers to chop the leaves into a finer cut.
