Paired it against 2 different klipsch subs. Rs 10 and ksw 12. Also against Accoustic Research AS 300 w sunfire tech (carver amp) and BG Z sub which is in a class by itself. The jbl came in last place in comparison. But it was close enough with the 2 klipsch that the average listener wouldn't be able to tell much of a difference. The bass on the jbl when playing music w multiple oscillators is not as tight as the others. Meaning it doesn't move back and forth as quickly as the others. A sine sweep from 25 to 125 it performed well. Just at a slightly lower dB then the others. If you care to know any other info just ask. I paired it against these subs because they are what I had out. I probably would have used some others in place of the AR and BG Z sub. The BG is twice the price new and the AR is the same price used as the jbl was when it was new. It looks good. 8 to 8.5 out of 10 on cosmetics. Overall performance for its class I would say 7.5 to 8.0. For my not to scientific test I used BK AVR 505s2, 2 BW dm 602 2NHT Super zeros and a Martin Logan Motion 8 center.
