The introduction of personnel-carrying helicopters resulted in a greater mobility that helped reduce the number of men dying from combat inflicted wounds. Wounded men were now usualy within only an hour of a MASH unit or aid station because they could call a Dust Off helicopter to come to their assistance. This meticulously handcrafted statue of three infantrymen depicts just such a critical moment. The three men are tired, hungry and combat-dazed after returning from a grueling patrol. The two men on the outside fight their weariness and summon their last reserves of the strength so that they can support their wounded buddy all the way back to safety. Their goal is clear: to reach a Medevac chopper that will extract the wounded man to a field hospital or aid station. The infantrymen wear ripstop, first-pattern jungle fatigues with pockets that have button-through pocket flaps. Each one also wears jungle boots, Alice web gear, and a helmet with a cover that was usually used to carry bug repellent and or cigarettes. Their weapons are M-16 standard issue with magazines holding 20 rounds.
