Snake Plants (Sansevieria) are by far the easiest plant type, so they're great for beginners. The "Moonshine" variety Sansevieria has light-green leaves. As one photo shows, over $16 is the after-tax store price for this variety and size, which is over a foot tall (these aren't easily available in stores). It is a mature, established plant in quality soil with a full root system and new growth (not a new division in yard dirt as many sell). It's also double-potted with a 6" nursery pot inside the outer self-watering display pot. The double-potting makes it easy to bottom water, and also means you don't have to buy another pot. Even if you prefer a nicer pot, you can just lift out the inner pot and place it inside your new pot without ever disturbing the roots. My plants are not only far cheaper than stores, but they also don't get abused every day and damaged like in stores.
