Description

I’ve got a ‘89 TransAlp that I’ve owned for over ten years and ridden everywhere. A few years back I hit some gravel in a turn and low sided it into a field, so it got a little dinged up and a salvage title. The windscreen broke off, the plastics and crash bars shifted and it got a softball size dent in the tank. I still rode it for a few years but then a 1996 came into my possession (never registered in the states). My plan was originally to combine the two, get the rear disk brake of the ‘96, the tank and plastics are virtually the same so maybe use some of those, then I have the front end off an XR600 that I was going to put on it, like some of the rally builds I’ve seen. Life, too many other bikes, and injuries got in the way and I just don’t think I’ll ever get to building it. I figured I would reach out to the community—someone interested in TransAlps might want to take on the project for themselves! They are projects! They ran when parked but that was some time ago. Bare minimum you will need: carb clean, new fluids, a battery and tires! The 1989 had a salvage title but is on non-op with no back fees. The 1996 was never registered in the states and has no paperwork but a bill of sale—it has a 17 digit VIN and might be registerable but I never tried. CA registration might be difficult because of things like the speedometer being in KPH. Let me know if you have any questions!
