Sunbeam Alpine Powered By Mazda Miata Motor

This car was purchase about a year ago as a project. It was purchased from a long time Sunbeam Alpine enthusiast and the shell was accompanied by a very large hord of Alpine parts and motors. The drive train is from a more modern first generation Mazda Miata. The motor has 65,000 original miles and prior to installation, the motor was serviced with a new timing belt and water pump. This motor swap required a custom radiator and custom wiring harness for engine management. The original ECU was used. A modern Mazda drive shaft was adapted to the original Alpine rear differential. New 2 1/4” mild steel exhaust was installed with cam style muffler. All new and modern gages by Dolphin were used and all gages work perfectly including a GPS speedometer. The braking system is original style and was completely rebuilt including the calipers. All new stainless brake lines and new hoses. Body was stripped to bare metal and sealed with epoxy primer. Minor body work was completed in some small rust located behind the front wheels and small areas of the floorboards. The transmission tunnel was reformed to accept the Mazda transmission. A close ratio shifter was installed as well as a modern clutch master cylinder. The interior floorboards were wrapped with dynamat type sound proofing and then custom interior carpet. The seats are modified PRP roadster seats re-covered in black leather. Custom door panels are aluminum and covered with black leather. The original style dash pad was not used and the dash was wrapped in black leather as well as the steering wheel. All chrome on the car was deleted and either painted body color or blacked out. The car has original wire wheels with knock offs and new tires. The care also comes with four original alpine wheels and hubs in case someone wants to change the wheels. Wheel bearings were replaced. The soft top mechanism is included with the car but no soft top is installed and no hard top is included.
