Description

Own the most distinct and complementary set of artifacts for sale representative of the early development cycle of the SpaceX Starship Launch Vehicle. Starship is a two-stage fully reusable super heavy-lift launch vehicle under development by SpaceX. On April 20, 2023, with the first Integrated Flight Test, Starship became the most massive and most powerful vehicle ever to fly. SpaceX has developed Starship with the intention of lowering launch costs using economies of scale. SpaceX aims to achieve this by reusing both rocket stages, increasing payload mass to orbit, returning both stages to be "caught" by the launch tower, increasing launch frequency, creating a mass-manufacturing pipeline and adapting it to a wide range of space missions. Starship is contracted to return the first humans to the surface to the moon since the days of Apollo in 2026 on NASA's Artemis III mission, and is intended to be utilized by SpaceX for the colonization of Mars. To date, it is the most powerful launch vehicle ever developed with over twice the thrust of the Saturn V, while also existing as the only fully-reusable launch system of its class and the only rocket system ever caught in flight for reuse. This offering includes a tract of the distinctive orange flight-termination system (FTS) cables seen externally on the SN9 vehicle prototype, recognized as only the second fully stacked starship vehicle to have made flight, as well as ruptured metal of the vehicle hull’s forward dome, and two exploded sections of the composite overwrapped pressure vessels (COPV’s), stored within the forward payload adapter of the hull for attitude control. Unlike heat shield tiles commonly made for sale on this site, each item of this sale was directly used for the critical performance, control, and powered flight of the Starship stack, including termination of the Starship SN9 spacecraft by means of the signal that traveled through this debris to execute it upon impact. The wreckage artifacts are in exactly as found condition, preserved for years from the crash site of Starship SN9 on February 2, 2021, complete with sand and smell from the area. SN9, or Serial Number 9 "Eileen", was the second fully stacked starship prototype to make flight. After a perfect suborbital ascent to the apogee of 10 km on February 2, 2021 for a duration of 6 minutes and 26 seconds, it was destroyed upon landing. While SN8 had a header tank underpressure issue, SN9 failed to reignite one of two Raptor engines required for a controlled landing. As a result of this, SN9 flipped but was unable to reorient to upright position and failed to decrease enough velocity, crashing into the landing pad and exploding. Following the test flight, Elon Musk stated that SpaceX would implement a design change to the vehicle in that all three center engines would be relit for the flip maneuver. SN9 is often referred to as "Eileen". This name was given to the Starship after it tilted in production (as in "I Lean"). These artifacts were sourced from vehicle debris recovery on Boca Chica Beach near the SpaceX Starbase testing site where early Starship rocket prototypes were flown during suborbital test flights.
