Description
That is a wonderful piece of musical history! This is a vintage 1960s Japanese-made parlor guitar. While there isn’t a brand name visible on the headstock, these were mass-produced during the "Japanese guitar boom" and were often sold under various "stencil" brands like Teisco, Kawai, Kay, or Kent. Here is a breakdown of what makes this guitar unique: Identifying Features Origin: The "Made in Japan" sticker on the back of the headstock confirms it was part of the wave of instruments imported to the US and Europe in the 1960s. The Tailpiece: The metal tailpiece with the "heart" cutout is a very common design found on budget-friendly Japanese imports from that era. The Finish: This is a classic "Red Burst" or "Sunburst" finish, likely over a plywood body (typical for these models). The "tiger stripe" pattern on the back is likely a faux-flame grain painted on to mimic expensive maple. Hardware: It features an adjustable floating bridge and "open-gear" tuners. The white pickguard is held on by screws, which was standard for these parlor-sized models. Condition: The guitar looks to be in decent cosmetic shape for its age, though there is some "checking" and wear on the edges. The tuners appear original. It is very playable and but definitely needs to be set up if so.
