Description

A very stunning and beautiful vintage Zsolnay ceramic figurine in excellent condition, no damage, no chips and no scratches. The beautiful ceramic figurine weighs 1lb.43oz and measures 8”1/2 tall x 3”1/2 wide x 3”1/4 deep. Background History of the Artist and Factory: Janos Török (1(contact info removed)) was a Hungarian ceramic artist born in Mezőtúr, Hungary. After graduating from college in 1956 he began working at the Zsolnay Factory in Pécs. During his career Török created a variety of unique, modernist figurines and sculptures. The Zsolnay factory was established in 1853 by Miklós Zsolnay in Pécs, Hungary. Ten years later, his son Vilmos Zsolnay joined the company and became its manager and director. He led the factory to worldwide recognition by demonstrating its innovative products at world fairs and international exhibitions. The secret Eosin technique which Vilmos Zsolnay developed creates iridescent metallic colours that are unique to every piece. Each Eosin object is unique and unrepeatable. The surface of Zsolnay ceramic forms appeared in glossy coatings reminiscent of silk, metal or glass. Those visual effects that transformed depending on the perspective and light made Eosin a captivating new form of expression for artists. The unique Eosin glaze is a staple of Zsolnay's identity and a favorite among collectors. Stunning Eosin pieces made by Zsolnay can be found in museums across the globe, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Musée d´Orsay in Paris. .
