Description
Please don't ask me if this is available. If it is posted, it is available. Victorian mahogany dumbwaiter, having two oval tray graduating tiers with lipped edges, raised on a fluted and turned column from a quadruple footed base, ending in brass capped feet feet. Dumbwaiters were introduced in the 18th century (circa 1720) and used in the dining room to hold food/beverage, dishes or cutlery, in addition and very similar to a buffet/server. Around the turn of the 19th century they also became common in the parlor. In both rooms, their main function was to hold after dinner drinks and dessert so the servants could leave the room, giving the guests more privacy, allowing them to speak freely and so they would not have to exert themselves replenishing their drinks. Today it could be transformed into a side table, plant stand, Christmas village display stand or even a nightstand. You could paint it very easily or restain the wood. 27 inches high, lower table 24 x 18, top table 19 x 14 Has scratches & scuffs, hence the low price. The price is fair and the price is firm. pick up in Long Beach near Ocean and Cherry or local delivery within added cost.
