Description
The day has finally come. I’m selling my 1989 Camper Van. It’s been a great home and vehicle, and you’ll certainly be very happy with it. It’s a Ford Econoline E250 5.8L V8. I have replaced or upgraded a lot of the major items over the last 5 years and it runs great and you can know that I spent a boat load so you won’t have to. I have a serious amount of good memories in this van and it’s the right size to get in and out of any campsite, winding dirt roads while being big enough to enjoy yourself without being cramped up. Let’s cut to the chase! The GOOD: • Full remodeled living area. It’s got a great vibe as you can see in the pictures. • It’s a tall living area so you can stand up in it which is more of a bonus than you might think. When the rain is coming down it’s nice to be able to stretch out as well as stand up. I’m 6’2” and there is tons of room above my head. • 200W solar batteries, 2000W inverter, 3780 Wh batteries (I think my math is correct here?) • Automatic transmission. • Class III towing hitch installed. • 2 Gas tanks (rear tank is 16 gallons, front tank is 12 gallons) so you can really get down the road or drive into remote locations and have confidence you have enough gas to get back to civilization. • 3-way refrigerator. • 2 burner stoves (propane) • I think the propane tank is at least 10 gallons but I never made use of it while I owned it and always cooked outdoors. • All maintenance records available, up to and including the two previous owners who had it. You will see from the records that I maintained the hell out of this van! • Ceiling Air conditioning. • AC in the cab blows nice and cold. • 15-gallon drinking water storage located under the divan. • Toilet and Black water tank – although I never used it as I own a shovel and used public restrooms which are easy to find. But it’s there if you need it! • Grey water system. • Tons of storage and additional shelf space was built where the shower is located to make better use of the living space. You can remove it if you want to but I lived in this thing for a while and it was more practical to have the shelves. • There is a motorcycle rack that you can have for free in case you have a dirt bike etc. • I’ll thrown in a bunch of items I don’t need any more but you should definitely have if have if you own a van including: o 13-piece trim removal too set o ½ inch drive extension breaker bar o 8,000-pound jack stands o 16,000-pound hydraulic o Shade cloth/tarpaulin o Mr Heater for the cold nights which runs on propane for outdoor use. o Hydraulic kit for brake fluid maintenance. Super easy to use. o Wheel chucks o Snow chains o And other assorted items • 170,000 miles on the clock (see below about valve job as this has been rebuilt) • Steering dampener installed • I installed privacy curtains in most of the van and have left over curtains that I didn’t install as I liked the view. You can install them if you want the extra privacy to create a totally unique space for yourself. • New suspension and sway bars installed in 2021 which was a $2900 job. • New drive line installed in 2022 • New starter motor installed last month. The great thing about this van is you can do a lot of basic stuff like this yourself. • A pull-out bed above the cabin or use for storage like I do. • I installed a $3,000 custom divan in 2021 as the main sleeping area. It’s super comfortable. You just move the drivers chair forwards to fold it out. • Rotating captain’s chairs with arm rests that make driving a lot more comfortable. • New valve replacement in 2024 which was a $5,000 job so this motor will run well for as long as you own it. The state of the motor is a major thing to know when buying a van – she will happily be doing 70 miles an hour down the road which is where the adventures are. The BAD: • The house heater blows a fuse when you try to turn it on via the thermostat. The solar was professionally installed by the prior owner and the heater used to work prior to its installation. I’ve never had need for it as I live in California. • When trying to open the hood, the latch sometimes sticks a little. • There is a tiny spot of superficial rust on the right rear corner. This is a solid van and made when Detroit steel was still a thing. It’s a Dearborn Michigan production model and it will last for another 20 years no problem. The UGLY: • How dare you. Price is $15,500 or best offer. It will treat you like a friend as long as you keep getting proper maintenance. It’s a great van, in great condition and a price that you won’t have to spend more on
